Tia McCollors - A Tribute to the Godmother

Today we welcome guest blogger, Tia McCollors with her tribute to Victoria Christopher Murray. Don't miss the book giveaway at the end.

From Tia's Pen:

I had the privilege of meeting Victoria, aka "The Godmother"for the first time in the summer of 2002 when I left my job early and rushed to a nearby mall where she was doing a book signing along with other literary greats Jacquelin Thomas and Patricia Haley.

Anyone who has ever met Victoria knows that they get the REAL Victoria from the very beginning -- funny, energetic, knowledgeable, and a master wordsmith all wrapped into one huge personality.

Victoria has personally influenced me by the words of encouragement she drops me that appear in my email box at just the right time or via voice mail. When the "person" doesn't speak to me, her "books" do. Victoria's mastery of the craft has grown tremendously from the first novel I read (Temptation) to this upcoming release that I can't WAIT to get my hands on.

She not only blazed the trail for other Christian authors, she went back and layed down the "gold" so that we could walk boldly as scribes in God's kingdom.

Thank you "Godmother."

From your FAVORITE godchild (SMILE),

Great post! I would tell you what I'd like to see in upcoming CF, but I'd be giving up my own story line! LOLOL. I would like to see more in depth church situations though. Characters that work fulltime ministry - what is the real heart and soul of the work? See past the glamour of the mega church and see their struggles and trials as they fulfill the work of God.

Thanks for letting me share!

I read Christian Fiction, because I already have a love for novels. Reading novels that also illuminate is icing on the top for me.

An issue I would like to see: some historicals. I would like to see how AA Christians endured hardship and overcame with faith during some of our darkest times in history. And more romances.

Overdone in Christian Fiction: infertility and womanizing pastors.

My relationship with the Lord is what motivates me in my life so reading Christian books fits my life like a glove just like reading the word.

I've read many Christian books about redemption and couples losing faith after a tragic incident. Many authors have written about pastor's gone bad as well as broken relationships due to a plethora of issues. Those two things have been done and done again.
I think its time we looked at a few bible stories and parallel them to our time. Maybe the story about the two women who had a child and during the night one rolled over and killed her child.

Both women were claiming parental rights to the one baby still alive King Solomon in ALL his wisdom had to decide who was the mother.

or

A book focused on when life happens and how a women in relationship with God tackles life.
Dealing with doubt, fear and pressing through.

or

let's hear about the things the ministries in a church go through and how they interact with other ministries. I for one being on the Stewardship ministry at my church wish I was blessed with a book in me. Our meetings deserve to be showcased (smile). So that leads me to believe that we are not unique in our way of conducting church business.

and lastly I would love a Self Help book on how to look at 1st century Christian issues and what it means for us today.

Hi Donan22,

I don't know what happened to your other post. I've been fortunate to never have something I had to delete. Thanks for stopping by. Don't give up on me. Might be technical issues with blogger.

Blessings,
Rhonda

Missy,

It's interesting you mention that story of the two women with the baby. That story has always fascinated me, ever since I heard it as a child. There is so much that can be done from the Bible. Christian Fiction is still a young genre for African American authors. I'm sure God will inspire someone to tell it.

Blessings,

Rhonda
