About the Book
Nila still
remembers the fire that claimed her husband’s life. Being a widow and single
mother is hard enough but being accused of her husband’s murder still burns.
Unable to complete her education in the US,
the beautiful young Nila is propelled into a life of bar dancing back home in India. When she runs
into Malcolm, a handsome, womanizing, and ambitious old acquaintance from her
college days, a friendship emerges, and she is confronted with dreams that had
been buried for years. For the first time since her arranged marriage, and
since the fire that changed her life, Nila is drawn into a journey of
self-discovery.
Forced to face their own demons, both Malcolm and Nila are thrown into a war of good versus evil as Nila’s mother in law is determined to have her incarcerated for murdering her
son . Not having an easy life thus
far, Nila feels like she has already been in a fiery furnace, while Malcolm feels torn about jeopardizing his
nearly perfect future and fortune with her problems. When a rich American
runway model attempts to steal Malcolm’s heart, Nila begins to re-evaluate her
relationship with Malcolm.When the heat is turned up, will Nila trust the foreign faith she has grown to know? Will
Malcolm and Nila be able to overcome their conflicting cultures and ambitions
to finally find real love, the kind that only comes from God?
Five Minutes With The Author
When
did you begin to love writing?
I remember always loving stories, whether they were on paper
or in my head. As soon as I could read and write, I began to write stories and
cut and paste pictures to go with my stories. I read every book I could get my
hands on and I lived for these imaginary characters. All through middle school,
high school, and college I wrote for
school publications and enjoyed every creative moment of it.
Did you
know you would be an author?
Yes, at the back of my mind, I knew I would write a book one
day. However, my career track was originally journalism because I was steered
that way by teachers.Unfortunately, I didn’t realize I should have majored in
creative writing.
Why do
you call yourself a kingdom writer?
In everything I write, I try to glorify God’s kingdom. My goal is to illustrate God’s love through
the lives of ordinary people.
When
did you publish your first book?
My first published book was a collection of poetry entitled,
When Torn Down Is All You Know. A few years later, at the end of 2006, I
received my first two book deal with Kensington’s Urban Christian Books. My
first novel, The Lovechild, was released in August 2008.
What
would you say have been the highlights of your literary career?
I currently have five novels in print, including my latest
release, Scorched. My next novel, When Kingdom Comes, will be released
in August 2014. Just knowing that my books are available in bookstores and
libraries across the country and the world is very humbling for me. I love it
most when people write to me to say that they enjoyed the book or that it had a
specific impact on their life.
Which
book of yours is your favorite?
Although I have a particular liking of the characters of the
joy series, I would have to say that my favorite book is Scorched because
of the love story.
Tell us
about Scorched.
Scorched was released on June 25th 2013. Nila is
a beautiful Indian woman who is struggling with her faith. Although she is
still traumatized by her arranged marriage, domestic abuse and the fire that
changed her life, she is still being accused of murdering her husband. As life
is not easy for women in India,Nila is forced into a life of illegal bar
dancing in Bangalore to support herself and her daughter. When she runs into Malcolm, a handsome,
womanizing, and ambitious old acquaintance from her college days in the United
States, they become close friends;she still fears any kind of intimacy. When a
rich American runway model attempts to steal Malcolm’s heart, Nila begins to
re-evaluate her relationship with Malcolm but it may be too late.
Why did
you decide to write about India?
I always enjoy taking adventurous trips in my imagination,
although I haven’t visited there yet. Believe it or not the character came
first and then the destination. I wanted to show what life was like for women
in India and what it was like for an American living and working in Bangalore.
What
did you enjoy most about writing Scorched?
I enjoyed writing Malcolm’s character because he was so
irresistible and almost chivalrous, at least to Nila. I loved softening his
heart underneath that fine, muscular exterior.
What
would you like your readers to know that they may not all ready know?
I’d like them to know that I write screenplays now, that I
have one movie released on dvd, Searching
For The Right Thing and it’s
available for purchase on Amazon. Look for my second production to be released
next fall.
What
should we expect from you next?
Definitely more books and more movies which shed light in a
dark world.
