The Joneses by Shelia Goss - Blog Tour

7 Questions with Shelia M. Goss and Giveaway

Shelia M. Goss is a national bestselling author and a screenwriter. The Joneses is her seventeenth book in print.

Where are you from and what jumpstarted your writing career?
I am from Louisiana – home of good food and good people (smile). I’m also an alumni of Southern University. I’ve been writing since I was 9 years old. When I was in elementary school, my teachers submitted my poems to Seedlings. In school, I’ve been on the yearbook staff, newspaper, etc. I decided to pursue writing as a career back in 1997. My first book outside of school was actually a collection of poems. It was called Embraced by Love – The Relationship.

Writing was always something that I wanted to do, but I originally had planned on waiting until I retired. After losing my dad and hearing of Princess Diana’s death, it dawned on me that life was too short and I shouldn’t wait to pursue my dreams. So, while I was still working, I would write at night, during my break, at lunchtime, etc. When the right opportunity came, it was just the right time to go ahead and put everything I had into it.

What genre(s) do you write?
I write in multiple genres: women’s fiction, romance, Christian fiction, suspense, young adult, etc.

What is your favorite sort of character?
One that is flawed. No one’s perfect in real life, so the characters in my books aren’t either. They have issues just like a friend, a co-worker or a stranger on the street would have.

What's something about yourself that readers may not know?
I love to play spades and dominoes. I'm a Virgo and Prince is my all time favorite music artist.

Were there things from “your world” incorporated into this storyline?
I don’t write about my real life. All of my books are fiction; any resemblance to anyone real is purely a coincidence.

What words of advice would you give an aspiring writer?
The best advice I could give an aspiring writer is to write, write, write. Write a complete manuscript, revise, join networking groups and research. Google is a writer’s best friend. When asking questions to other authors, be specific. A generic question like “how can I get my book published?” will not yield you the response that you want. Why? Because there’s no magic formula to getting your book published, but yet, there are many books written on the subject.  Asking specific questions will show that you’ve taken the time to do your research and possibly read some of those books or articles and that you’re serious about the craft of writing.

What's next for Shelia Goss?
2014 is off to a good start. I have several pending projects that I hope to finalize in the first quarter. I'm working on a couple of new books as well as writing a couple of screenplays.  Thirsty-The Movie that's based on one of my original screenplays has a Facebook page. To keep up with the process of what's going on with the movie, be sure to "like" the page: https://www.facebook.com/theThirstyMovie

Ruthless by Shelia Goss

About the Book

Shelia M. Goss brings readers a modern day retelling of David and Bathsheba.

Bathsheba Richards has just discovered that she has a half-sister who needs her help. Sheba's long lost sister isn't too happy about their reunion, though, since she has a lot of problems of her own. Sheba's dealing with her husband's boss, who wants her all to himself. After succumbing to his advances, Sheba gets pregnant, and there's no question about who the daddy is, since her husband has been overseas for the past three months.

David King is the CEO of one of the largest media conglomerates in the country. Few people know that David has a calling on his life, but he's been running from it. He thought having fame and fortune would fulfill the need. Only after Sheba gets pregnant does he realize the error of his ways. Praying for God's mercy, David tries to right a wrong. Whether he will succeed or fail remains to be seen.

With a long lost half-sister and a husband who will surely feel betrayed, Sheba's life is filled with turmoil. Will David be her knight in shining armor as he professes to be, or is her nightmare just beginning?

Book Review

Shelia M. Goss’ Ruthless is an interesting book that places a modern twist on the biblical story of David and Bathsheba.

David King is a wealthy man who literally has it all, money, power and any woman he wants but he only has eyes for Sheba. Although he knows it is wrong he can’t stop thinking about Sheba and how he can convince her to be with him. He eventually does some ruthless things to get what he wants, but can he pay the price for his actions?

Bathsheba Baker Richards is the happily married wife of Uriah Richards. She feels an instant attraction to David but has no intention to act on that attraction. Although she and Uriah have some financial issues they are still very much in love.

When David and Bathsheba meet you just know nothing good is going to come out of this relationship especially when God is nowhere in the midst. The author also gives us closure on her first Christian fiction book in the series Delilah. We finally find out what happens to Delilah and how she relates to the story of David and Bathsheba.

I enjoyed reading this book. It started out a little choppy but the storyline picked up and moved right along. It was a very quick read. I found myself rereading 2 Samuel 11-13:25, to reacquaint myself with the biblical story and I was pleasantly surprised that Ms. Goss followed the scripture. I anxiously await the next story of her notorious women of the bible.

Delilah by Shelia Goss - Book Review

Book Review
(This review was originally published on 12/15/2010)

Shelia M. Goss’ Delilah is a riveting story about secrets, lies and betrayal. The characters are well written and practically come to life on the page.

Delilah Baker was a changed woman or so she thought. She lived a hard life and survived abuse from those who were supposed to take care of her. But past indiscretions were catching up with her. Her boss blackmailed her into doing things that she initially didn’t want to do. Delilah felt that she could stall her boss long enough until she have everything that she wanted, enough money so that she could be comfortable, a man that she loved and thought she would marry and a church home. There was just one huge obstacle, his fiancĂ©.

Samson Judges is the young Pastor of Peaceful Rest. Samson had for the most part avoided temptations in his young life and was arrogant enough to think that he was above reproach. He has lived a charmed life. He has great parents, a job for which he was predestine and a woman that he loved and was engaged to marry. He also had Delilah, his Achilles’ heel.

Samson and Delilah had a tumultuous relationship that causes them both to lose things that that they worked so hard for.

Delilah deals with morals, temptations and judgment. I would definitely recommend this book. It is a fast easy read and it will keep you glued to the pages until the very end. How far would you go when temptations are calling your name? Delilah leaves you wanting more.

Delilah - When Love Deceives - Blog Tour

5 Questions with Author Shelia M Goss

Shelia Goss has stopped here on my blog for her Delilah When Love Deceives tour. She's celebrating the release of her tenth novel. Delilah is her first Christian fiction novel and is in stores now.

Where do you get the inspiration for your stories?
Inspiration comes from life. I can be dreaming, on the phone, watching TV, at the store...etc. Ideas will pop into my head at odd times. I wrote Delilah because I kept hearing people trying to blame others for their transgressions instead of taking responsibilities for their own actions. I decided to take a tragic love story from the Bible and give it a modern day twist.

What is Delilah about?
Delilah is an entertaining novel with a Christian message that is not preachy but allows the readers to see how our choices can affect our lives. The characters face many temptations but there is room for redemption. I think even if you don't normally read Christian fiction, you will be able to enjoy Delilah.

Are any of your characters based on real people?
The characters in my book are only figments of my imagination. I may take personality traits from a variety of people (whether it be someone I know or a stranger) but for the most part, if a character resembles someone you know, it's strictly coincidental (smile).

What would you like readers to learn from your novels?
Each one of my stories have at least one message. The messages vary. I hope readers of my books are able to not only be entertained, but think and learn something from the characters.

No one is perfect and we all fall short, but even with our imperfections, God gives us grace and shows us mercy.

What advice would you give aspiring writers?
If you feel that you have a God given talent, then practice your craft and be the best you can be. Despite the rejections you may get, do not give up. Believe in yourself. Take a chance on yourself and do not accept no. Also, it is very important if you want to be a writer to WRITE. Get at least the first draft done and you'll have something to work with.

DELILAH is Shelia Goss' tenth book. It's available in hardcover and paperback.

Delilah by Shelia Goss

About the Book

Behind every successful man is a good woman. The downfall of a good man is a woman up to no good.

Thirty-year-old Samson Judges is a prominent pastor of the Peaceful Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana. His church owns land that real estate mogul William Trusts wants. When Samson refuses to sell, William hires Delilah Baker to find out Samson’s Achilles heel.

Money isn’t Delilah’s only motivation for taking the assignment. After watching Samson every Sunday morning on a local television station, Delilah has fallen in love with him. In her mind, there is only one person standing in her way of getting Samson—his fiancĂ©e, Julia Rivers.

Samson is far from innocent. He feels his longstanding relationship with God puts him above reproach. His weakness for one woman, Delilah, threatens to ruin his relationship with Julia, his parents, and his church. When he realizes the length Delilah will go through to get her man, Samson vows to protect his ministry by any means necessary.
