The Adventures of Nurse Nicole – N is for Nurse Virtual Book Tour (Giveway Included)

About the Book

The Adventures of Nurse Nicole is a wonderfully clever and bright series about a nurse with three children who are curious about nursing. The Adventures of Nurse Nicole, “N is for Nurse” describes the art and science of nursing from A to Z with positive images of the nursing profession. Nursing is one of the most sought after and trusted professions in the world. This is a must-have book, because everyone will need a nurse one day. The next book from The Adventures of Nurse Nicole is titled, “Wash Your Hands,” and is also available.

My Review

Great children's book. In a time when so many nurses are overworked and burned out, it's nice to see a nurse so dedicated to her vocation that she wants to share it with the world. I was very impressed with these books. As for the content itself, the pictures were very well done and the text very informative. It was delivered in a way that held my 7 year old son's attention which was a good sign, because I believe he's on the upper end of the age spectrum for her audience. The first book, N is for Nurse is one that I wish I had several years ago. Not only does it share information for children about healthcare, it's a great tool for reviewing the alphabet.

My favorite of the two was "Wash Your Hands" probably because I'm constantly telling my son to wash his hands. The book addressed every area of my concern with respect to handwashing from handling the family dog to playing sports. It was nice to have this resource to drill the message home. The graphics of germs were also very well done. I highly recommend these books for parents of children from ages 3 - 7.

Sistahfaith Anthology (Simon & Schuster, 2010)

A Good Excuse to Be Bad (Kensington, 2011)

Which book did you find the hardest to birth?

My next release Someone Bad and Something Blue which releases in July 2012 was my hardest to write. My stories are pretty big as far as story plot points. Because it’s romantic adventure I have to accomplish two things in the story. When I wrote A Good Excuse to Be Bad I knew how the series would begin and end, but the stories in the middle that will drive the series I didn’t know what would happen there. On top of that my editor Selena wanted me to put a cliffhanger on the end of A Good Excuse to Be Bad. That cliffhanger was the catalyst for Book Two and Book Three, so connecting the dots was hard. I rewrote chapter one fifteen times. Each chapter was different from the first.

Which book is your current favorite?

I think most authors would say the book they are currently working on, because you grow as a writer. I love A Good Excuse to Be Bad. I love the idea of a feisty female lead who falls for the worst person at the worst time in her life and then have to honor her responsibilities as a young mom at the same time. This book has to be my favorite, because it’s what sold Kensington on the entire series. So I’m writing Book 3, which I need you all to help me with a title. It is messy, and Angel has put herself in a pickle that is so much fun and a bit scary to write.

How would you describe your writing style?

My writing style is a Catch 22. You either love it or you don’t. I write fast paced novels and I use pitch, diction, and sentence structure to accomplish that. Sometimes it comes across choppy, which is what I want. I want readers to feel the chaos and confusion of certain moments. The best way to do that is playing with sentence structure and pitch.

My writing influences are Chuck Palahniuk, Edgar Allan Poe, Thomas Hardy, Zora Neale Hurston, William Faulkner, Nella Larsen, Walter Mosley and Sydney Sheldon, so that should tell you my writing style is unique.

Do you listen to music while you write? If so, what kind?

I can’t write a scene unless I have the write music that fits the mood. I have a playlist for A Good Excuse To Be Bad you can hear on my Facebook Wall. Hit the Vevo Tab.

There is some rock music on there, Aaliyah is a major influence for Angel’s character. One Republic, Adele, Sade…it’s sensual, adult, not dirty, dark, uplifting. I am a Christian music publicist so I have from traditional gospel Mahalia Jackson to contemporary Christian Natalie Grant also on the playlist as well.

Tell us anything about you as a writer that you think might be interesting or unusual.

I wrote the argument scenes just after I had an argument with my boyfriend or my daughter’s father. I channel those emotions into my story. So if Angel is crying, than I was crying when I wrote it.

What advice do you have for aspiring writers?

Surrender to your gift by becoming a better steward of your talent. Take writing classes to learn craft. Write every day to exercise the craft. Join writer’s groups to motivate, inspire and champion you when you don’t feel like it. Realize that as African Americans it was once illegal for us to read or write. In my state less than sixty years ago our grandparents had to leave school at sixth grade. It is a privilege to write and read. Let’s respect that and do those who died for our right to read and write proud. Let’s write the best stories that can both entertain and inspire our world.

Writers are often encouraged to write what they know. Have you found that to be the case with your writing?

No. No one wants to read a novel about German church architecture. Lol. That’s what I know like I know I have five fingers. I think you should write what keeps you up at night. That is what you know and your readers can relate to. Now the story that you pull together to address that nighttime haunt can be whatever makes you excited and happy about. Because you will have to spend many hours planted in a seat in front of a computer/laptop. If what excites you is a bail recovery agent hanging in Atlanta clubs then write about that. Just make sure that this bail recovery agent shares your heart.

About the Book

Smart gorgeous and too tough for her own good, bail recovery agent and single mom Evangeline Crawford moved to the burbs for a quiet life. Fortunately, it’s not turning out that way…

Angel has to admit she’s feeling restless. The only excitement in her life is her schoolgirl crush on the town’s new pastor, Justus-too-Hot-to-be-Holy Morgan. But a fateful encounter and a job gone wrong at Club Night Candy in Underground Atlanta is about to change all that…Soon, Angel’s trying to save her divazilla twin sister from her big mouth and a scandalous murder charge, and probing a church cover-up–with none other than Justus by her side. But Angel has one more pressing concern; will Bella be ready for kindergarten? Only time will tell for this bad girl gone good whose days are once again far from boring–and hopefully far from numbered…

The Revelation Gate Blog Tour

About the Author

Brian L. Thompson, Great Nation Publishing’s President/Owner and author of The Lost Testament, is a licensed educator, and former professional journalist.

He showed an early interest in classical literature and the arts, particularly after his poem, “Black Sunday,” received an honorable mention in Gwynedd-Mercy College’s literary contest for high school students in 1993.

A 1994 North Penn High School graduate, he continued his education at Morehouse College in Atlanta. While there, Thompson wrote for the Maroon Tiger newspaper; moving up the ranks from staff writer, to Sports Editor, and finally to Editor-in Chief.

After earning his Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in English in 1998, he transitioned to a staff writer position at Montgomery Newspapers.

In 2000, his second as a professional journalist, he returned to the field of academics at Temple University, earning a Master’s Degree in secondary education in 2001.

Thompson then turned to education at West Charlotte High and Newton High schools respectively while simultaneously researching and writing his first Christian fiction novel, The Lost Testament – a project self-described as a “faith-based tale with every day characters engaged in a thrilling plot.”

During this time, he also helped edit author Sabra Robinson’s anthology of inspirational stories entitled The Lost Sheep: How I Got (And AM Still Getting) Over the Hump – A Personal Account of God’s Restoration After Doubting His Purpose, the Church, and Human Existence.

He and his family reside in Georgia.

About the Book

After 800 years of oppression, the Uché abandon all hope of liberation – until a boy with unbreakable bones emerges from the wilderness. . .

For centuries, Uché seers foretold the birth of a deliverer called Mkombozi – one fated to enter The Revelation Gate and lead them to freedom.

Knowing this, the king of the barbarous Otī does his best to eliminate the lone threat to his dominion. When his best efforts fail, he allies himself with a self-proclaimed emperor who reveals the true natures of The Revelation Gate and the Uché hero.

Meanwhile, as Mkombozi’s mother wavers between feelings of abandonment and crises of faith, her people ready themselves to wage an unwinnable war – minus faith in their deliverer, whose fate ushers him to an uncertain destination.

Merging elements of political intrigue and social class relations together in an allegorical, character-driven plot, The Revelation Gate confronts issues of doubt, star-crossed love, and the power of the individual.

Which book is your current favorite?

Life is what you make it – seven steps to moving forward is my favorite

How would you describe your writing style?

I would describe my writing style as a combination of “inspirational” and “Motivational” ingredients cooking in the same pot.

Do you listen to music while you write? If so, what kind?

No, I prefer silence.

I always write three manuscripts at the same time, that way I never get writers block.

Just as in everything in life, the more you do it the better you get so write as much as you can and then some more. When writing, never worry about making mistakes or worry about how different parts will sound, you could always go back and correct it. If the thoughts are flowing, flow with it, never break you train of thought by trying to correct while writing

Writers are often encouraged to write what they know. Have you found that to be the case with your writing?

Yes, you could never attempt to write what you don’t know. This will generate problems for you in the long run.

Man Enough For Me - Blog Tour

About the Author

Rhonda Bowen is a writer and event planner living in Toronto. When not stressing over her job, she can be found at church stressing over the kids she teaches in youth class. She enjoys spending time with her family, trying on shoes she can’t afford, and enjoying life’s unexpected twists and turns.

List your published books.

Man Enough For Me is my first published novel. It was released February 22, 2011 from Kensington Books.

Which book did you find the hardest to birth?

I am finding my second novel harder to write. With the first novel, I had all the time in the world to lovingly craft it into what I wanted it to be. With the second novel, I am under the time constraints of a contract and have to be more disciplined and deliberate in meeting my own personal writing deadlines and those of my editor!

How would you describe your writing style?

I think my writing style is still evolving. Probably unlike most writers and most likely to the horror of my editor I never outline a story before I write it. In fact, I tried that once and the story never got finished. I usually mull an idea around in my head until I have a first chapter. Only then do I start writing, and from there, I let the story write itself.

Do you listen to music while you write? If so, what kind?

I love listening to music while I write! I feel like the music sets my mood and helps me feel what I want my characters to feel in a particular scene. I listen to some 90s R&B but mostly gospel. Fred Hammond and Kirk Franklin are favorites.

Tell us anything about you as a writer that you think might be interesting or unusual.

I’m an undercover writer. When I told my family and friends that I had a novel that was being published most of them went into shock. Very few people know how much I write. In fact outside of my immediate family and a few writer friends, not many people know.

What advice do you have for aspiring writers?

I feel like I’m still too new to be giving advice, but I do encourage aspiring writers to just write. Write everyday and write about things that interest you. Don’t worry too much about being published at first. Just make sure you’re having fun. I think when you are enjoying yourself writing, the sentiment will be transferred into your work.

Writers are often encouraged to write what they know. Have you found that to be the case with your writing?

It is definitely easier to write what you know and I think your story ends up being more credible when you do. I have read stories by other fiction writers where they write about the industry that I am a part of and I can tell almost immediately when they have no firsthand experience. I am not saying that you should never write about unfamiliar topics, but if you do you should definitely do your research and, if possible, have someone who knows look over your story for you.

Book Review
by
Janette Malcolm

Man Enough for Me written by Rhonda Bowen is an awe inspiring book that shows that no matter what you do if you trust in God He will take care of you.

Jules Jackson has a good job, good friends, a burgeoning career that she loves but she hasn't met that one person she connects with who she could truly love. Jules is just a little jaded by the prospects of men out there. She constantly finds flaws with every man she meets and does not expect to give her heart away anytime soon.

Germaine Williams is an entrepreneur and a man of faith who also harbors a secret. When the two meet, sparks fly. You know that they are perfect together but wonder if they can trust each other enough to be the person that they need each other to be.

Rhonda Bowen is a talented writer and a great story teller. She showed all aspects of the Christian experience from those deeply rooted in their faith to those who are new to the faith.

I really enjoyed this book. Although it started out slow, it soon picked up the momentum as it makes you wonder what secret is Germaine hiding, how would Jules handle it all, could she, would she trust God in all aspects of her life. I was drawn into all the twists and turns of the relationships within this story. I found myself turning several pages ahead just to see what was coming up next.

This was a very good book and I can’t wait for Rhonda Bowen's next one.

Rhythm of Secrets Blog Tour - Day One

About the Author

Patti Lacy graduated from Baylor University in 1977 with a BS in education. She taught at Heartland Community College in Normal, Illinois, until she retired in 2006 to pursue writing full time. She and her husband, Alan, have two grown children. Visit Patti’s Web site at http://www.pattilacy.com/.

Patti, list your published books.
An Irishwoman’s Tale, What the Bayou Saw, The Rhythm of Secrets

Which book did you find the hardest to birth?
Definitely my first baby, An Irishwoman’s Tale, the story of my BEST FRIEND! If that isn’t enough cause for drama, An Irishwoman’s Tale went from memoir to first person novel to third person novel.

I KNOW that Irish child had at least forty rewrites. My brother, a fellow writer, threw up his hands and asked his wife, “What should I tell her?” when Draft 1 zipped into his mailbox. Thank the LORD my brother offered compassion, patience…and a copy of Self-Editing for Fiction Writers!!!!

Which book is your current favorite?
Now you know better than to make a mama choose a favorite child. Once I heard this quote: “My favorite child’s the one who’s needing me the most.” As The Rhythm of Secrets needs a good reception now that she’s out of the birthing room, I’ll give the nod to baby three!

How would you describe your writing style?
Ooh, I ADORE music and always listen to selections from my eclectic collection when writing, so I sure HOPE my style’s eclectic and lyrical. I’ve been told there’s a literary edge to my work, though I’m not sure what that means.

Do you listen to music while you write? If so, what kind?
Ooh, y’all, can you BELIEVE I did NOT look ahead and read this question while I was answering the previous one? I LOVE jazz, especially the oldies, like Louis Armstrong and the New Orleans era stars. Some recent additions to my collection include The Fray, Corinne Bailey Rae, Augustana, David Crowder Band. http://www.pandora.com/ is a great tool for music lovers to discover new artists!

Tell us anything about you as a writer that you think might be interesting or unusual.
Hmmm. The Rhythm of Secrets has musical literature to enhance your reading experience. Are you getting that music theme????

Visit http://www.pattilacy.com/rhythm-of-secrets-music.php and link to YouTube songs that express each chapter.

What advice do you have for aspiring writers?
Write for the Audience of One and listen to that Still, Small Voice, the best writing coach I’ve yet found!

Writers are often encouraged to write what they know. Have you found that to be the case with your writing?  Kinda yes and kinda no. How’s THAT for an answer? I’ve relied on real-life incidents to inspire all MY books. Sometimes they’re way out of my range of experience, like the life of a Thai woman enslaved by human trafficking in the Vietnam War era. Truly every person I know is fodder for fiction! Watch out if you don’t want to be in print!

Thanks ever so much for having me here today. I loved it!

About the Book

Sheila Franklin has lived three separate lives. Now a conservative pastor’s wife in Chicago, she is skilled at hiding secrets—a talent birthed during childhood romps through the music-filled streets of New Orleans. But when the son she bore at the age of eighteen comes back looking for answers and desperate for help, her greatest secret—and greatest regret—is revealed.

Eager to right past wrongs, Sheila’s heart floods with memories of lyrical jazz music and a worn-out Bible. But when her husband learns of her shady history, Sheila is suddenly faced with an impossible decision: embrace the dream—and son—she abandoned against her will or give in to the demands of her safe but stifled life. As she struggles to reclaim both her son and her identity, Sheila soon realizes that God’s grace spans both seas and secrets and that He is all she really needs. With dynamic writing that makes the reader feel the heartache of a teenage mother, struggle with the disillusionment of an abandoned boy, and revel in the idea of grace despite flaws, rising star Patti Lacy takes her fans on a journey they won’t want to end—and won’t soon forget.

The Last Temptation by Michelle Stimpson

The Last Temptation
by
Michelle Stimpson

About the Book

Sensible single mother Patricia "Peaches" Miller isn't about to follow in her mama's footsteps and become dependent on a man--no, that would be too easy. But when she doesn't see eye to eye with the man she wants to marry, she knows that returning to a life of girls' nights out, retail therapy, and chocolate peanut clusters just won't do for her. Then Raphael, her son's father, steps back into the picture--and makes it clear that his attraction to Peaches is stronger than ever. There's just one problem. Raphael has already pledged his heart to another woman.

Peaches has been praying for a perfect family for a long time. Deep down she knows this can't be God's idea of an answer--but can you blame a girl for hoping? Now, as she battles with temptation, and with her faith, she's not sure which will win. . .

Book Review

Being a lover of Christian Fiction, I was elated to learn of Michelle Stimpson’s latest work. In The Last Temptation, we are reintroduced to Peaches Miller and several other characters from her debut novel, Boaz Brown.

Peaches is a single mother, living a God-led life, is engaged to Quinn, who is also living a God-led life. Conflict comes to the couple when Quinn accepts a job in another state without the benefit of consulting with Peaches. This decision sends their relationship into a tailspin, as Peaches feels that such a decision should have been discussed with her, and Quinn feels that he made the right choice because his decision is one that will make their lives better. He indicates that he is going to wear the “biblical pants” in their marriage.

Ms. Stimpson does an excellent job weaving the characters together and telling their story. The characters and their relationships are well defined and the story is easy to follow. She shows us, through the characters, what can happen when we attempt to handle things and solve problems on our own, instead of allowing ourselves to be led by God.

I truly enjoyed this book, and highly recommend it to readers of any genre, not just Christian fiction. Ms. Stimpson did not disappoint with this one.

Michelle, list your published books.

Boaz Brown, Divas of Damascus Road, Breaking Bondage to Biscuits, Trouble in My Way, The Good Stuff, Last Temptation.

Which book did you find the hardest to birth?

The Good Stuff was probably the hardest because there was so much I wanted to say in that little book. There’s still a non-fiction aspect to that book that I want to finish.

Which book is your current favorite?

That’s a super-tough question. I love them all for different reasons. I want to say Boaz Brown, but I’m partial to my first-born.

How would you describe your writing style?

Easy-going. I like to write first-person because I like telling stories when I’m with my friends. So, it’s easy for me to write in a conversational style.

Do you listen to music while you write? If so, what kind?

No, I don’t listen to music when I write. I wouldn’t be able to concentrate. I have to have a completely quiet house to write at home; a secluded booth when I’m at Panera.

Tell us anything about you as a writer that you think might be interesting or unusual.

I don’t do a bunch of outlines when I write – I just write myself into the story. This usually means I’ll have quite a bit of re-writing to do, but I’m okay with it.

What advice do you have for aspiring writers?

Just write the book already!

Writers are often encouraged to write what they know. Have you found that to be the case with your writing?

In my case, yes. When I write what I know, the work comes across as authentic and believable.

About the Book

Patricia “Peaches” Miller finally has the man and the ring she always wanted, but she’s not quite ready to turn in her Independent-Woman-Card to follow her follow her future husband’s dreams. When her ex suddenly becomes re-interested in her, Peaches wonders if she owes it to her son to give his father one more chance. But this last temptation hurls Peaches down a dangerous road that tests her relationships, her faith, and even her sanity. Can sin ever have a silver lining?

Home Again Blog Tour - Day One

Wanda, what inspired you to pull together the Home Again anthology and what do you hope readers will learn?"
The Home Again: Stories of Restored Relationships anthology deals with an issue that is very dear to me: family relationships. It has always been my belief that family relationships help shape and mold us as individuals. If those relationships are healthy, most likely we’ll grow into positive productive members of society. If our family dynamics are abusive or unhealthy, more than likely, we’ll learn to subconsciously hurt other people.

In my personal life, I’ve experienced extreme broken family relationships from the beginning. I’m the product of an extra-marital affair between a 17 year-old girl and a 39 year old man. Due to these circumstances, I never had the privilege of meeting my father and grew up fielding my mother’s resentment of having being forced into motherhood at a young age.

What I hope readers learn, like I have, is that Home is an institution where we are loved and cared for...a place of genuine affection and security. Ironically, it can also be the source of our greatest heartaches and biggest disappointments. But with God’s love and guidance we can always go home again and mend broken relationships.

LEAVE A NOTE: Are you struggling about a broken relationship? Let us know how we can lift you up in prayer.

About Wanda B. Campbell

Wanda B. Campbell is an extraordinary and talented writer who brings creativity, a new sense of hope, and restoration through the healing power of God to the Kingdom, by way of Christian fiction. She uses real life everyday issues to exhort, motivate, and give comfort.

Currently, Wanda has three published novels: First Sunday in October, Illusions and Right Package, Wrong Baggage. Her fourth novel, Silver Lining is scheduled for August 2011. She is also the founder of Micah 6:8 Books, LLC.

About The Book

Home Again is a compelling journey into the relationships that matter most: family, friends and self. Each story is founded on natural love, but will require the Father’s love to heal the brokenness.

Travel with husbands and wives, brothers, sisters, friends and families as they maneuver through life’s hurts and betrayals while leaning on a power greater than themselves.

Book Review - Soon After

Soon After, is Sherryle Kiser Jackson’s follow up novel to Soon and Very Soon. Soon After picks up where Soon and Very Soon ends. Even though this was a follow-up novel, I was able to read it and follow the storyline without the benefit of having read Soon and Very Soon. The story picks up after the destructive fire at Harvest Baptist Church, and reporter, Alexis Montgomery is determined to get to the real cause of the fire. Ms. Jackson did an excellent job telling the story without one having to wonder what happened in the first book. Soon After gives us a gives us a glimpse into the lives of Pastors Willie and Vanessa Green. Their lives are full of twists and turns. I hope Ms. Jackson bring Willie and Vanessa back for another installment of this series. This is a must read, and you will not be disappointed.

Q&A

List your published books.
Suddenly Single, First Comes Love, and Flaws and All

Which book did you find the hardest to birth?
Actually, it’s the book I’m working on now, Catt Chasin’. I’ve had so much going on in my personal and professional life that I can’t buckle down and focus. I’m getting there, though.

Which book is your current favorite?
Flaws and All, just because so much of me is in that book. I’ve been all of the characters at one time or another.

How would you describe your writing style?
It’s either edgy Christian fiction or light contemporary fiction. I haven’t decided which one yet…

Do you listen to music while you write? If so, what kind?
I’ve tried listening to music while I write, but it doesn’t work. I end up dancing or thinking about something else and, before I know it, I’ve wasted five hours of my life on Youtube and have written all of two sentences.

Tell us anything about you as a writer that you think might be interesting or unusual.
I write in my head first. I will literally stare at the wall for hours, but I’m actually writing the book in my mind. After I do that, I can put it on paper and everything just flows.

What advice do you have for aspiring writers?
Learn everything you can about the business side of it. It doesn’t matter how good your writing is if no one ever reads it.

Writers are often encouraged to write what they know. Have you found that to be the case with your writing?  I write about love and relationships, but the relationships are usually screwed up. I definitely know something about that!

Shana Burton talks about her latest novel, Flaws and All, and shares an excerpt.

Who Speaks To Your Heart - Blog Tour with Stacy Hawkins Adams - Day One

Hi, this is Stacy Hawkins Adams, author of Who Speaks To Your Heart? Tuning in to Hear God’s Whispers.

Here’s a question you may never have asked yourself : Who is speaking to my heart? Who is speaking to my heart? Is it my parents? My spouse? My boss? Is it a friend or an enemy? Is it God?

I’m guessing that all of the above could be true, but amid the chatter, or what I like to call “incoming traffic” from your fellow mortals, make sure you are keeping the door to your heart open for the One whose words matters most.

We can’t ignore the instructions, guidance, requests and pleas of our loved ones or our earthly leaders, and the Bible instructs us not to do that. However, amid the clamor of their demands, we need to find a way, and make the time, to be still and open, so that when God taps on our heart’s door, we’ll be prepared to receive Him and embrace His truths and His love.

When we allow God to speak to our hearts, our quest for happiness is replaced by a joy that only He can provide. Our longing for direction is satisfied with His divine guidance. Our need for affirmation and love is covered by his grace and mercy.

The more courage we muster to slow down and truly listen, the more we can hear him speaking through others, through signs and into our very spirits.

In Jeremiah 29:11-12, God reminds His prophet (and us) that He already knows what’s in store for us. All we must do is follow where He’s leading. We can stay on the right path, or get back on track, by looking for Him and listening for Him every day.

Meditate on this Scripture, then ask yourself, What does God want me to give up so I can grow closer to Him?

If I let go of the things that I know aren’t good for me, what’s the worst that can  happen? What is the best?

Ask yourself these questions, then listen as God speaks to your heart.

About the Book

With insight, inspiration, and practical ideas in her new book—Who Speaks to Your Heart?—, author Stacy Hawkins Adams shows you and all women—regardless of the labels placed on you—that your best and most important title is the one given by God … chosen vessel.

“I wrestled with whether a God that I couldn’t see or touch would be willing to single me out from the millions of other people who wanted love, attention and help.”

To women all over the country, from all walks of life, this uncomfortable uncertainty is all too familiar. Now—for inspiration, for affirmation, for a divine connection—you have a new place to turn … to this authentic look at what it takes to pursue God with abandon, by acclaimed author Stacy Hawkins Adams.

Offering insight, inspiration, and practical ideas on how to connect more often and more deeply with God, Adams helps give you and women the world over the courage to go deeper and grow deeper in God’s word to hear Him more clearly. Women young and old will be empowered and renewed by Adams’ reminder that—regardless of the labels placed on you by society, your family, your friends, and even yourself—your best and most important title is the one given by God … chosen vessel.

My God and Me Blog Tour - Day One

My God and Me Blog Tour
LaShawnda Jones is the publisher and author of Jazzy Media LLC. Her latest publication, My God and Me: Listening, Learning and Growing on My Journey is full of inspiration and testimony of personal growth.

Jazzy Media’s early publications brought local recognition to LaShawnda Jones’ work and requests for speaking engagements poured in. In 2004, she began facilitating body image and self-esteem workshops. Over the years, she has facilitated workshop discussions on the effects of family, friend, media and societal influences on our body image, self-esteem. She combines all that and more in My God and Me as she addresses, explores and strengthens her and her readers’ identity in Christ.

List your published books.

I self-published two editions of VoLux Full-Figured Calendar, two volumes of poetry titled Fantasies: A Metamorphosis of Sexual Attraction and Clichés: A Life in Verse. I am a contributing author in Go, Tell Michelle. And my current work, the reason for this interview is My God and Me: Listening, Learning and Growing on My Journey.

Which book did you find the hardest to birth?

Hard? You have to define hard….(smiling) The words and the images were in me. Each work was a natural evolution for me. I just wrote was on my heart and mind. The birthing wasn’t really hard. Rather effortless. The sharing has been more difficult. I’ve completely left myself open and vulnerable.

Which book is your current favorite?

My God and Me is my favorite. It’s a summation of everything in my life. All my other publications are rolled up into the storytelling. My journey to those efforts were part of my journey to God and to myself, which is the story told in My God and Me: Listening, Learning and Growing on My Journey.

How would you describe your writing style?

Conversational. I write with the hope and expectation of receiving feedback. To that end, I write as if my audience is seated right in front of me.

Do you listen to music while you write? If so, what kind?

I write best in complete silence, except for the natural noise in a particular environment. However, once I get going I tune out even those noises.

Tell us anything about you as a writer that you think might be interesting or unusual.

I’m not as interested in making money as I am in sharing my message. I didn’t go through all my trials for nothing. Someone needs to hear how I’ve not only gotten through and overcome but how I continue to florish. My writing is my voice. In this way I will continue to speak until I’m told to pipe down.

What advice do you have for aspiring writers?

Write! That was the best advice I ever received. With the exception of my calendar each of my publications have been compilations of previous work I had written as individual pieces with no thoughts towards publication. With both of the poetry books and My God and Me I looked up one day and said, “Wow! I have enough material for a book!”

Writers are often encouraged to write what they know. Have you found that to be the case with your writing?

Yes and no. I absolutely write about what I know. But writing is about embellishing. To embellish, you need imagination. And what you imagine isn’t necessarily your physical reality. It’s better. I can be effusive in speech – rarely. However, I am very effusive in my writing. I have a flair with the written word that I don’t use in my regular speech.

About the Book
Relationships change with the tide of life. When your relationships ebb more than flow, do you find yourself asking, “Were my dying relationships ever real relationships? Are the people who maintain contact, but with whom there is no connection, worth holding on to? Should I expect a person’s presence in my life to equal dependency in my time of need? Does the quality of interaction determine the level of importance?”

These questions and many more flow through the interactions shared in My God and Me: Listening, Learning and Growing on My Journey.
