SistahFaith and Amani Publishing are co-sponsoring the WordPraize Writing Contest 2009 for fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. The grand prize is a $1,000 publishing contract, a $500 editing deal, and $100 cash. For more information, click here.
Triom Publishing and Emerging Writer Magazine are co-sponsoring the Emerging Writer Awards. There is a smorgasboard of entry categories, from short stories to poetry to almost every genre of fiction to non-fiction. The grand prize winner gets $2,000, and possible publication.
Both Triom and Emerging Writer, a Triom publication, are new but the website says Triom is "an independent publishing house dedicated to discovering America's newest talents" and "not a subsidy publisher".
Deadline for entries is August 31, 2009. Winners and Finalists will be announced in November 2009. The Emerging Writer Awards was established to honor the best undiscovered writers in the English language.
